City of Sydney

The City of Sydney is the local government authority responsible for the city centre and more than 30 suburbs within our boundaries.

We have defined 10 village precincts, each with its own unique character. The area we look after covers 26.15 square kilometres extending from Sydney Harbour in the north, to Glebe and Camperdown in the west, and from Sydney Park and Rosebery in the south to Moore Park and Darlinghurst in the east.

The City provides essential local services such as our network of libraries, street cleansing, maintaining roads, assessing development applications, collecting waste and recycling, maintaining our parks, playgrounds, gardens, sports venues and community centres. On any given day, including the city's visitors, the City hosts 1 million people.
